what social problem you are discussing, what your real opinion of the
problem is, and what type of voice you will be adopting to ironically
mock the opposing position's view point. You may also want to address
how you will structure your argument: will it be a mock letter to the
editor, an opinion piece, or a speech? How will your argument begin and
how will it end? Remember that irony works best when it builds: in
other words, it helps to begin by sounding vaguely reasonable and become
more and more extreme as it goes.

My idea for the irony paper is animal abuse/animal testing for cosmetics and medications and things. In reality I feel abuse against animals and taking advantage of them in this way is as wrong as it would be to do the same thing to a helpless human, and don't understand how people can see it any different just because the species is different. They are still living, breathing creatures of the earth and don't think humans should be using and harming them simply because they're easy to use because they can't fight back. I'm going begin by saying how animal testing is necessary to protect humans from being affected, and build up by saying things like that animals don't have feelings like humans and that they don't contribute to the world, anyway. I feel sorry even writing that down here. My essay is going to be set up as an opinion article. I will try to adopt a voice of someone who thinks in high regards to their own personal health and safety but whom is oblivious to the suffering of others.
ReplyDeleteThe first idea that came into my mind when thinking about the irony paper was drinking and driving. I feel like this topic is very diverse and everyone has a different opinion about it which makes it so interesting. The whole point of this topic is to give a different view of what it would be like to live a life of a drunk driver and to know what they think about the concept. I feel very disgust even only by writing about it, because I know this topic is very difficult to talk about. Even though it's something I strongly disagree with, I will have to agree with it for the purpose of the paper. My paper will be set up in a article/personal opinion; I'll be living the life of a drunk driver. I'll try to make the voice of someone who doesn't mind drinking and running to the road afterwards. Even though drunk drivers are very dangerous not just for themselves and also the ones around them, they have their own opinions which I will be able to discuss in this paper. This could turn out to be a little funny, even though it talks about a serious society problem of our every days lives.
ReplyDeleteThe topic I chose to write about for the irony essay was animal rights. I strongly feel that animals should have rights and be protected considering they cannot protect themselves. Animals are mistreated and due to abuse and experimentation for cosmetics every day. Animals do not have a voice to defend themselves like people do, this puts them at an unfair advantage against us. Animals are considered to be "part of the family" to many families out there, including my own. I never imagined that there were people out there that felt differently. When I searched my topic, I discovered that not only do some people neglect their animals, but others feel that they are worthless, they do not serve a purpose, there for they do not deserve rights. This was shocking to me and encouraged me to want to learn more about this group of people who have an opinion so different than mine and the people around me. I plan on starting my essay off by using quotes and opinions of the people I searched who feel differently than I do on this topic. I feel it will be interesting not only for my own knowledge but the reader of this essay as well, to learn how someone can justify animal cruelty being ok.
ReplyDeleteMy idea I have chosen for my irony paper is the social issue of the death penalty and it's justification. My personal opinion on the issue is that no matter how horrible a crime, death is never a civilized way of punishment. I will adopt the voice of a politician trying to get my state to adopt the death penalty into our penal system. I will write the paper as if I am giving a persuasive speech to my fellow delegates. I am going to start off with just talking about how some crimes are worse then others. Then have it escalate to the "pros and cons" of the death penalty through the eyes of a supporter.
ReplyDeleteThe topic that I have chosen for the irony paper is graffiti. In this paper I will go about as if I am a wacky artist who believes that people have the right to do any type of art anywhere that they want with no restriction. We do have freedom of speech and self expression so I will try my best to support the side with facts. In reality I believe that graffiti causes more harm then it does good and causes a great burden on the owners and the billings of which they vandalized. This paper might not be like everyone else’s who has clarity over what side is good or bad, and I'm hoping to actually cause a debate while making fun of the opposing side ironically.
ReplyDeleteFor my irony essay, I plan to write about the topic of animal cruelty and testing. I am personally very against animal cruelty of any kind, no matter what the reason. I will write the paper as if I did not see a problem with animal abuse and testing. Although it seems absurd that anyone would agree with animal cruelty, I have found some online articles that have these opinions. It will be written like an opinion piece. I'll first discuss how animals are not humans, and how there are more important things to be concerned with. I'll then write about how primitive animals are and how aggressive they can be. On the topic of testing, I'll argue that testing harmful chemicals and products on animals is necessary.
ReplyDeleteFor my irony essay I am planning on doing the issue of gun control laws. My point of view as a writer of this letter will be that there needs to be more laws on restricting gun control. I choose to do this issue because it has been an issue in recent news. The issue of gun control also has a lot of controversy surrounding it, which makes it an interesting topic to elaborate on. I feel as though gun control will be an interesting topic to write on, especially from the opposite point of view.
ReplyDeleteFor my irony paper I plan on taking the role of an eighty nine year old man who is aggravated with the how youth act today. My paper will be formatted as a letter, and will be dealing with issues like culture today, what teenagers consume, and yippersnappers riding skateboards on the sidewalk. I know that this topic isn't as controversial as many of the other irony papers, but the reason I chose it was because I would love to ironically joke with the topic of elderly people and what annoys them. Hopefully I can pull it off!
ReplyDeleteMy topic will be on the controversial problem known as Hydraulic Fracturing. It is a process with many pros although they are vastly outweighed by the cons. My stand on this issue is that it is a horrible process that contaminates people's water supplies with harmful,toxic gases. I will take the point of view of a person looking at the benefits of Hydraulic Fracturing as it is financially beneficial to the U.S and gas companies.
ReplyDeleteI'm planning on writing my irony paper with my topic being feminism. I for one am all for woman's rights and for us to get equal treatment no matter what gender we are. Men and woman should be treated as equals because we honestly are. In my essay I'm planning on writing using the character I have created named Hubert Schmuck. He is meant to represent all those that are completely oblivious to today's culture. He constantly over exaggerates the situation as well as makes extremely offensive references. At the beginning he will may be able to be taken seriously, but by the end you might want to slap him in the face. The paper itself will most likely be written like a letter to an important individual or like a comment on some type of online forum. All in all I have a basic idea of what I would like to accomplish and I hope you are okay with my decision.
ReplyDeleteFor the irony essay, I have decided to write the problematic issue of animal abuse. I am completley against animal cruelty, for animals are defensless and cannot stand up for themselves. It is abuse and should not be stood for. With this said, in my essay I will write about a women who is all for animal cruelty, believing all animals are wild beasts that should be kept in place, even if it involves abusing the animal. She herself is all for it, and even abuses the animals herself. I will write about her opinion on the commercials we all have seen on tv standing up for the poor animals that have been victims of the cruelty, and how she makes a mockery of the matter. I am looking foward to writing this essay because it will be a different experience writing my opposite opnion of the horrible matter.
ReplyDeleteProposal: My idea for the irony paper is about Obama Care. My actual opinion on it is that it sounds good in theory because it would be great to have free health care, but that shouldn’t put other people in the place to have to pay for it. I will be using the internet to look up people who are all for the idea of Obama Care. I will also have my family help me because they feel the same way that I do. This will give me more ideas on how to imitate someone that likes it. My essay will be spoken by a woman by the name of Pheobee Freebee, someone who is qualified for Obama Care and will be receiving it as soon as possible. She will be in a commercial trying to persuade people with the idea. Her commercial will escalate and finally she goes crazy.
ReplyDeleteI have decided to write my irony paper on the topic of fighting in the National Hockey League. My view on this topic is that they should keep fighting in hockey so I will be writing an opinion piece in the eyes of someone who really wants fighting to be removed form hockey. The paper will start of relatively normal and it will gradually become more intense and crazy. The person I will be writing from the view of will be very obsessive about this topic and the person will really want to ban fighting from hockey. Some people that are a part of the NHL are against the fighting in hockey so I will look up some of their articles and see they way the talk about it and try to imitate them in the beginning of the paper.
ReplyDeleteThe social problem I will be discussing in my Irony paper is gun control. My real opinion on it is that we should have less laws restricting guns. Things that Obama and his followers say are what I will used. By doing this I will make my paper stronger because I am mocking them. My irony paper will be structured to be a speech. My argument will begin by telling people that they need to come together as a community to make our children's future brighter. And it will end by asking the people listening if they want to join a club that is for more gun control.
ReplyDeleteFor my irony paper I will be a pro public nudest. I will be discussing the benefits of public nudity and the value of embracing that everyone is different in an amazing way. My real opinion about this issue is that it is completely wrong. I would never want anyone to see something so private about a person that they have never meant before.
ReplyDeleteI will be writing this to a paper editor but the style of writing will be very formal and polite. I want my pro nudist character to be taken seriously. She would like for people to see that they are 'normal' people like you and me but they just have a different life style.
The social problem that i'll be discussing in my irony paper is the theory of evolution. My real opinion is that the theory of evolution is more logical compared to the idea that god created everything. I'll be imitating hardcore Christians. My paper is going to start off with "facts" that Christians use to try and prove the theory of evolution is nonsense, and gradually move more and more into the ridiculous. This will make my paper more convincing because people won't read the first paragraph and already see how ironic it really is.
ReplyDeleteWhat I plan on doing for the irony paper is to imitate the people who think medical marijuana is bad and has no legitimate use. I’ve seen a couple documentaries about medicinal marijuana and they both just expanded my thought on why medical marijuana is good. They’ve also presented some people who think it’s bad and I think I’ll be able to show in my opinion paper how stupid those people are made out to be. I will be writing as someone who is anti-medicinal marijuana who has a child with severe epilepsy. The only cure for the seizures will be to have her child use cannabis (medical marijuana), but she doesn’t want him to simply because “drugs are bad.” In the beginning it will be normal; just a typical mother who is a little too overprotective of her child. By the end the reader should be able to pick up on how psycho the mother when it comes to drugs and what she categorizes pot users as. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to persuade my readers to be pro-medical marijuana.
ReplyDeleteMr Telles, I am writing my irony paper on gun control and am taking the stance where I am against the government proposing gun laws. I personally think that if the government does put restrictions on guns in the United States it is going to be a very stupid idea. My paper will be about how if the government takes away guns from the citizens then the only people who will have guns in the country are those who obtain them illegally, or in other words, those whom you would rather not have them in their possession. Also the fact that the gun trafficking ring would increase in size would make the danger for everyday citizens a continuous hazard. In conclusion if the government makes the dumb decision to limit gun control, then guns will be in the hands of criminals and criminals only, making the city streets of the United States that much more dangerous than they already are.
